The risk of poorly timed or unexpected pregnancies will increase if women are unable to obtain effective contraception. Unintended pregnancy after delivery affects the health of the family as a whole. It relates to increased maternal, perinatal and infant deaths and is associated with nutritional problems of both the mother and the child. Hence, good knowledge and the attitude of family planning among women are important. This study was undertaken to explore the knowledge level, attitude and other factors influencing the potential use of contraception postpartum among women after delivery. Methods: This cross – sectional study was carried out in general hospital using the questionnaire among women after delivery willing to participate in the study. Results: Among the 200 women studied, the highest age group was from twenty five to thirty four years olds (57.5%). Mainly the participants live in urban. The level education of women and their partner was secondary level. It has a clear impact on knowledge of women, with higher education being more likely understand and use contraception postpartum. Knowledge was also was significantly associated with occupation, contraception methods were used previous (p<0.05). 45% women had Catholicism religion but it was not impact to their knowledge as well as attitude. In this study, the percentage women had knowledge good about contraception postpartum was 22.5%, but attitude toward about contraception postpartum was high, 95% women had attitude from excellent to good. Conclusions: According to the research, the contraception awareness among the postpartum women was high but their knowledge was low. Hence, efforts for the postnatal counseling detailing about contraception would be important strategies to improve the knowledge and effective using contraception postpartum among delivery woman.
