It is native to the Central and South America Andes region. Quinoa is highly adaptable to environments that are not advantage to crop production, such as drought, low temperatures, and high soil salinity. Quinoa can be used as indicator plants in virological because it can be infected by many different viruses and only form local lesions on mechanically inoculated leaves. Since plant virus diseases would severe affected the quality and yield of crops, fully understanding the interaction between viruses and plants would contribute to greatly the prevention and control of virus diseases. This experiment was conducted by mechanical inoculation of quinoa mutagenized strains progeny (M2) treated with ethyl methanesulphonate (EMS) chemical mutagenesis. After six weeks sowing, mechanical inoculation Tobacco mosaic viruses (TMV), which is host range broading and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) where conducted to screen mutants with systematic symptom. The result indicated that through 0.3% EMS chemical mutagenesis treatment, one mutant was obtained after mechanical-inoculated of TMV in 378 mutants and ZYMV 630 mutants strains.
