Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 高階經理人碩士在職專班 === 106 === The chemical industry accounted for 26% of the manufacturing output in 2016. In recent years, due to the prosperity of China''s chemical industry, many Asian countries have also rushed to catch up with the advance in technological capabilities. The ASEAN organization builds tariff barriers for chemical products. Under such impact, the chemical industry in Taiwan suffers with more strict challenges. The characteristics of chemical industry include various raw materials, diversified production processes, huge energy consumption, environmental pollution, and production safety requirements. I use public companies listed in Taiwan''s chemical industry and analyze their financial statements in this study. Based on the financial ratios of the efficiency of asset management, capital structure, and solvency ratio, I try to find the important factors that determine the firms’ profitability. In the empirical evidence, I find that the financial ratios selected in this study have insignificant impact on the profitability of the chemical firms. Through comparative analysis, I find that the cost of raw materials for chemical products should be more important than these financial ratios. The profitability of these chemical firms has a negative relationship with the prices of the raw materials.
