Although the Taiwanese dialect remained a spoken language, it evolved into a language with distinct tones between each word. Despite how unique the Taiwanese dialect is, the younger generation could only get a slight taste of the language from the limited resources from school. The goal of this research is to make the Taiwanese language attractive and fun for the people who are interested in learning the Taiwanese dialect. We are planning to design a new learning system that is based on the unique tone of each Taiwanese word that can potentially make the language easier and more fun to learn, thus increasing the chance of passing on the Taiwanese dialect. The first step of our research is to investigate the seven different tones of the Taiwanese dialect. There are words in the Taiwanese dialect that sounds the same but with different tones to represent different meanings. We will be investigating this with survey, and after we collected the data, we analyze and organize the different tones of the Taiwanese dialect. We give each and individual tones a specific mark. Secondly, we then use another survey in which we have people from different age groups to listen to different tones and chose the corresponding markings in order to validate our data. Finally, we conclude that this learning system indeed increase the participants’ willingness in learning the Taiwanese dialect. This research was designed to investigate the possibility of learning a new language in a nontraditional way. We aim to invent a way to learn a language from the perspective of the people who are trying to learn; instead of the people who are trying to teach, and we have done it by actually visualizing the words by grouping the words by tones which are more instinctive to students, in which makes learning the language a lot easier.
