Moreover, the difference in performance between magnetic gears and mechanical gears is gradually diminishing, such that it is now possible to combine both kind of gears in a system for a better transmission. According to the concept of elec-tromagnetism, the PMs in the magnetic gears can be replaced by coils, and the magnetic gears will be a new type of motor with a gear ratio. Therefore, the main purpose of this the-sis is to find out a design procedure for the new kind of motor with a gear ratio. The pro-cedure presented in this thesis will integrate the theory of harmonic modulation in magnetic gears alongside the concept of electromagnetic field in motor design. With this established procedure, reduced time to solve parameter-coupling problems in the above mentioned concepts is achieved. In addition, by analysing effects of the flux densities harmonics in the inner and outer air gaps, parameter relationship between designing a motor or a magnetic gear can be estab-lished. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, Ansys Maxwell, is used for analysis and design in this study. After the design procedure of the magnetic gear motor has been estab-lished, a miniaturized magnetic gear motor prototype is fabricated to verify the results of the FEA.
