Therefore, enhancing their attention and physical performance could improve the quality of life. This study investigated the impact of basketball course on attention and occupational physical performance for students with intellectual disabilities. Methods: Twenty-four senior vocational students with mild or moderate intellectual disabilities in a special school in New Taipei City, Taiwan, were recruited and randomly assigned to basketball group and control group. The basketball group was provided with a 8-week self-designed basketball course (50 min each time, 3 times a week), and the control group was informed to keep daily activity as usual. Pre- and post-test attention tests (Chu’s attention test and Wisconsin card sorting test) and occupational physical performance tests (two-handed lifting tasks-floor to waist, two-handed lifting tasks-waist to chest, continuing to stand and pick up items, Minnesota-handedness placing test, Minnesota-handedness displacing test, Minnesota-handedness turning and placing test, up and down a ladder, walking on a balance beam) were measured. Descriptive statistics, independent-sample t test, and Two-way ANOVA mixed design were performed for the data analysis. Statistical significance was set at a level of p<.05. Results: Basketball course had on significant effect on attention and occupational physical performance but significantly improved working memory. Conclusion: The beneficial effects of the basketball course on attention and occupational physical performance were limited. However, the basketball course can improve working memory of students with intellectual disabilities. WANG, CHEN-HSUAN 王瑱瑄 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 159 zh-TW
