In the 4th generation LTE mobile system, the modulated OFDM signal can be implemented by the fast Fourier transform. However, this simple modulation method will lead to the energy spreading issue over each sub-channels. As the number of users increasing, it will be very difficult to deal with the multi-users synchronization and spectrum allocation. For this reason, Among the next generation of mobile communication systems, whether to use other modulation technology is a rather hot topic. In this thesis, we introduce one of the most popular waveforms in the fifth generation mobile communication system : Filter Bank Multicarrier system. Its biggest feature is that subcarriers have quite convergent spectral characteristics so that the communication system can be more effective in handling multi-user coexistence issues. However, FBMC system may have more serious problem than OFDM systems, because they have overlapped symbols transmitted simultaneously and do not have cyclic prefix for doing synchronization. Therefore, we will applied a blind synchronization algorithm used in OFDM systems to the synchronization of FBMC systems and evaluate its performance.
