This teaching can also integrate the environmental issue to enhance the ability of art and caring the environmental problem. Through the method of action research, this study is intended: (a) to explore the theories related to teaching straw-stained painting integrated with environmental issue; (b) to develop an art curriculum and instructional principles for such teaching to upper graders in elementary school; (c) to analyze the process and results of such teaching; and (d) to reflect on the teaching and propose suggestions for future related teaching practice and research. The results of this study include: (a) the straw-stained painting can be utilized in various ways, and can be used to integrate with other knowledge domains or issues. The theories of DBAE and Neo-DBAE, as well as integrated teaching are very suitable for the curriculum and teaching development of this study; (b) The curriculum should apply the principles of continuity and sequence, with multiple and interesting activities. The teaching units should not only focus on environment related issues, but also pay attention to the importance of art knowledge and abilities; and (c) Under the art teaching of this study, students have positive and concrete growth in the domains of cognition, affection, and skill. Suggestions of teaching practice include the application of principles of curriculum and instruction in contemporary art education for teaching methodology; the integration of living experiences and other disciplines for enriching teaching content; more observation and experiences to concrete objects in teaching process; exhibition and communication for the last stage of curricurrum. As for the future research, other issues, domans, on disciplines can be integrated for developing study. In addition, other graders can be involved as subjects, and method of case study or the approach of art therapy can also be adopted for future research.
