碩士 === 國防大學 === 戰略研究所 === 106 === The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) unveiled twenty of its own fifth generation J-20 fighter on November 1, 2016. The advantages of the fighter’s various characteristics, including stealth and super sonic cruising capabilities, super maneuverability, and superior avionics for battle awareness and effectiveness, forms a threat to its neighbors such as Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. They also expand the PLA’s air defense strategy of “air and space integration” and “attack plus defense capabilities”. The purpose of this thesis’ research include: 1.Review of historical and contemporary viewpoints on air power theory, to explore the developments and trends of air power theory in the future 2.Exploring the evolution of the PLA’s air defense strategy 3.Analyzing the strategic use and future development of the J-20 fighter 4.Analyzing the threat posed by J-20 fighters to our air force, and those of Japan and Korea 5.Discussion of our country’s response to the J-20 fighters This paper aims to understand the threat of J-20 fighters to the Northeast Asian region through examination of the research outlined above, and provide references for suppression of the J-20’s influence on air space control.
