In this study, Junior and Senior school handball players in Kaohsiung were chosen and analyzed through a self-constructed questionnaire. A total of 160 valid questionnaires were obtained. Then used SPSS18.0 Chinese version of to operate descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, independent sample single-factor variance analysis, snow fee method after-the-fact comparison and Pearson Product difference analysis. The results showed that: first, the contestants were mostly male players and they were mostly in 7th grade; Players who practiced more than five days a week; Players who used to win top 3 in the national tournament. Second, among for facets of motivation the "Self-potential" was the highest, others were "interaction with peers", "achievement needs" and "body and mind health". Among the five barriers “psychology” ranked the highest, the other orders were “school administration”, “physiology” , “school team training organization”,and “peer factors”. Third, as for other factors of participation motivation, there were no significant differences in “gender”, “age”, “grade”, “duration on handball team”, “weekly practice times” and “the best ranking”. Forth, it made great differences in obstruction factors among “gender”, “age”, “grade”, “duration on handball team”, “weekly practice times”, “the best ranking”. Fifth, there was a significant negative correlation between the motivation and obstacles of Kaohsiung Public junior and Senior High School handball players.
