Summary:碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 音樂學系研究所 === 106 === Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy(1809 - 1847)was one of the most naturally gifted composers in the early Romantic Period. His famous overture of A Midsummer Night’s Dream showing his exceptional composition talent was written when he was only seventeen years old. Because of growing up in a wealthy family, Mendelssohn was raised with many literary resources and became a composer with great taste of literary poetry. Most composers'' works were unsuccesful in their premiers. Reformation symphony was a work not only received negative by the public, but also was hidden by Mendelssohn until he died. However, this work has valuable references which include many composition techniques and creativity skills for modern composers. The value of this work is worth a lot of exploration nowadays. This thesis focuses on the background of Reformation and discusses Reformation symphony which Mendelssohn incorporated his Jewish identity into his work. Furthermore, this work also combines the text and the music by Martin Luther’s Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott.The thesis is including the analysis and conducting interpretation, in addition to the relationship between tempo and religion was also discussed.
