The participants were residents in Puli Township. The questionnaires were distributed from May 27th to 28th, 2017 at the destination of the marathon race and water competiton. A total of 250 questionnaires were distributed and 173 effective questionnaires were returned with an effective response rate of 69.2%. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Independent Sample t Test, One-way ANOVA and Multiple Regression. The results revealed that: (1) The residents were male, relatively young, had low household income, and worked in the commercial industry; besides, the majority were event participants and the average time of transportation was about 15 minutes; (2) The highest mean score was attitude towards sport tourism development and perceived benefits of sport tourism was ranked lastly among the variables; (3) Different demographic variables failed to demonstrated significant effects on the perceived benefits of sports tourism, attitudes toward sports tourism development and willingness of sport tourism development; (4) Perceived benefits of sport tourism was found to be positively related to attitude towards sport tourism development as well as willingness towards sport tourism development; (5) Attitude towards sport tourism development was found to be positively related to willingness towards sport tourism development; (6) Residents’ attitude towards sport tourism development was found to be a link upon perceived benefits of sport tourism and willingness of sport tourism development. Based on the results, the researcher suggested the organizers can develop managerial strategies in order to enhance attitude towards sport tourism development as well as willingness of sports tourism development (e.g., promoting the development of community tourism through sport tourism events) so ad to improve the quality of the event. In addition, the organizers should design more diverse tour packages in order to enhance the participants’ willingness to revisit the event in the future.
