It aims to transform real life experiences by exploring the fuzzy half-asleep, half-awake states. Sleep is a process that everyone experiences on a daily basis, and “dreams” are a major component of sleep. But what is the significance of the content of these “dreams”? This might be intriguing to many people. However, even if different people dream of the same thing, it does not necessarily carry the same meaning for them. Since the paper explores the general situation that is applicable to most people, it first starts with the concept of “sleep timing” in an attempt to explore the experiences of falling asleep, awakening from sleep, insomnia or being half asleep, as well as suddenly being awakened out of sleep by loud noises. This research focuses on the process of sleep where consciousness wanders between dreams and reality, exploring the temporality in this process. The paper looks into various physical and mental states during sleep from a scientific and psychological perspective, and integrates these phenomena into paintings. It also studies what kinds of perceptual stimulation awaken a sleeper from sleep. The author presents a wider variety of art related to the temporality in hypnagogia by depicting people’s consciousness wandering between dreams and reality during the process of sleep. Through a series of works and theses, this research aims to portray the process of people’s consciousness wandering between dreams and reality, the state of interaction between dreams and reality, as well as the temporality between “half-asleep” and “half-awake”.
