Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 語文與創作學系碩士班 === 106 === Su-Fen Tsai’s novels are full of the sense of time and feminist consciousness. Also, she shows her deep and great concern about people and the place where she lives. However, in her novels, she also writes about the issue of migration, which is seldom discussed among scholars. In our time of globalization, migration becomes a kind of experience that cannot be avoided between you and me. Tsai shows this kind of phenomenon in her novels: People in Salt Pans shows how people reconsider the meaning of their hometown and how people try to look at their hometown in different perspectives during the migration from the countryside to the city. Candlelight Banquet shows how the main character creates her identification when her home was destroyed and yet rebuilt again and again. At the same time, this novel also deals with about the issue of feminist consciousness. As a single-child in a big family in China, how does Bo-Chen fight for the feminist under the suppression of the traditional Chinese culture? And what is her self- identification during the process of fighting? The Stars Are All Talking presents the issue of diaspora. Self-identification and national identification are the two main aspects that Tsai wants to focus on when telling a story about a man’s psychological journey and the struggle during his search for American Dream. Tsai wants to show her readers that one day, not only the strangers but also you and me will experience the journey of finding who we are. The Stars Are All Talking reveals that there won’t be any distinct boundary between countries and that self- identity or national identity won’t be stable any more since diaspora is nowadays a global phenomenon.
