Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 進修部暑期特教碩士班 === 106 === Background:The past study about exploring the people with hearing- impairment becoming a teacher as the teaching is extremely rare, and most of them were used by narrative or life history method.Purpose:To explore the process from pre-vocational preparation to being a teacher among the teachers with hearing-impairment. Method:Twelve participants were recruited by using snow-rolling sampling method. The data collection was proceeded via in-depth one-on-one interviews with an attempt to deeply explope the pre-service and in-service stages of the participants. The data was subsequently carefully analyzed by implementing grounded theory method. Results:The results show that a hearing-impaired teacher’s career consists of five stages, namely (1) preparation stage: preparing forobtaining a teacher license (2) uncertainty stage: being uncertain about being a teacher in a regular school (3) trial stage: struggling to convince the interviewers of his/her capability of being a teacher (4) challenge stage: facing the challenge of teaching in a school that only provides general education (5) identification stage: acknowledging and transforming the limitations of being a hearing-impairment teacher, and thus continue to make efforts to conquer the challenges. Conclusions︰Help to understand a teacher with hearing –impairment in the pre-service preparation and teaching work to adapt to the situation.
