Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 音樂學系 === 106 === With the evolution of musical instruments and the diversification of musical styles, the repertoire of clarinet, far from limited in classical pieces, extended into the contemporary and Jazz music. Through the Concerto for Clarinet and orchestra by Artie Shaw, the thesis will discuss the technique and interpretation influenced by jazz music in the pieces for clarinet.
Divided into 4 parts, the first part of the thesis introduces the role of clarinet in early Jazz music through some outstanding clarinet performers who brought impact to the classical music repertory for clarinet. In the second part presents the life of Shaw and the creation background for this concerto. The third part is an analysis trough the forms and chord structures of the concerto. In the fourth part, the author of the thesis compares the interpretation of the composer himself and the version of Sharon Kam, also presents her personal suggestions on interpretation.
