News plays a social role in a democratic society, with an important function to promote democratic decision-making. However, And television is particularly importance in traditional media. with the progress of science and technology, media market competition, digital convergence and other factors, young audiences listening habits change, the traditional narrative ways of television news is facing challenges.
A "Digital News Report", (2016) which published by Reuters Institute of Journalism published in 2016, shows that many people nowadays have other alternatives to get news. They would rather get information from community media than television. Up to 68% of 18 to 24-year-old audiences get news on social media platform. Katz proposed the theory of uses and gratifications: listeners choosing media has their purpose, moreover, the TV news content and narrative must meet satisfy audience.
In this study, through the methods of in-depth interviews and focus groups, there are some opinions below: At first, a news content and narrative styles which are generally considered being boring, plagiarism from other sources, and highly-questioned news value do not match e-generations expectations; Second, although a number of news executives finds the changes of viewing habits in e-generation and the criticism of recent TV news, they do not try to propose any ideas to solve problems. Finally, once we can break away from the traditional thinking and provide a new mode of television news narrative, it can be possible to improve the viewing motivations of young audiences.
