Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 廣播電視學系碩士班應用媒體藝術組 === 106 === The exhibition, Dazzling with Paper with Gold, was expected to preserve the Taiwanese traditional paper offerings skills and made public learn the paper offerings works from artistic angle. Along with the change of the time, paper offerings industry has declined gradually. The improvement of printing and papermaking technique makes life convenient, which has impacted traditional industry. In case of this culture changing, I had thought that whether there is a way not only preserving the traditional skills, but also conforming to the trends of the times. I combined my creative motivation and the 50-year exquisite traditional skills from my grandfather, and I made a documentary of his handmade production process. We had planned for this exhibition together, including Paper Offering Monopoly Game used by the living. I expect that it can reverse the stereotype of paper offerings and break the custom concepts of death from people. I combined my own experience and literature of afterlife world to present new types of paper offerings fusing old and new appearance. Generally speaking, public usually has a gloomy and creepy impression to paper offerings, but each work of this exhibition has its own heartwarming story, which led visitors to view paper offerings as gifts given from the living to male departed. This would implicate both missing and blessing, instead of taboo or horror. These ingenious paper offerings works were made by my grandfather. Every single step contained unique craft inherited from my great-grandfather. One of the folk beliefs in Taiwan is the living usually burn real stuff containing their missing to their relatives in the other side. They convey their wish through the smog since they believe their relatives departed would receive it if they bless wholeheartedly. I had kept deep thinking how paper offerings skills are inherited and how we can find new value for it. I had displayed these in my exhibition and let visitors find answers themselves. This paper amply narrates the preparation of documentary and paper offerings making. I had spent a year to prepare and conceptualize the exhibition. In addition, the paper includes creative ideas, literature reference, presentation techniques of the video, exhibition space searching, record and review of public display, and so on. I detailed the beginning to the end of each works making and procedure of creation. With my own experience sharing, I hope it could have value to be referred to and promote works degree of perfection to future creators.
