When a machine tool is utilized for cutting operation, the high temperature generated during machining will cause the overall temperature rising of the machine tool, resulting from thermal deformation of the workpiece, machine, and tool. In order to control the effects of the above conditions, it is extremely important to monitor the actual cutting state. In this research, a wireless Bluetooth transmission multi-function sensing module is developed for thermal-shifting measurement of a five-axis machine tool. The temperature sensor was installed on the spindle of the machine tool for thermal temperature rise measurement. The K60 minimum development version was used to receive the temperature signal and transmits the temperature data via a wireless Bluetooth module. The effect of the thermal deformation of the tool on its length and radius was measured using the contact tool gauge Blum Z-3D. From the data measured during actual machining, we can obtain the amount of temperature change, the elongation and the radial deformation of the tool, and the amount of wear before and after each cutting of the tool.
