Outstanding athletic performance at international competitions can rapidly raise self-esteem. Certainly, it may also develop into a negative nationalism and begin to belittle other groups. In addition, when the own country’s athletes get a successful achievement which will become an important source of national pride and positive identification. In 2006, Germany hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup and on account of the previous unemployment rate, made the middle and lower classes feel dissatisfied. Therefore, through holding the 2006 FIFA World Cup divert public attention and make collective identities, just like the imagined community. The 2006 FIFA World Cup has become a platform for catharsis of patriotism, as well as for the German to show their own national pride. Besides, according to an analysis of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung is known that Germany is beginning to move towards to a normalized country and appear a new national identity. Furthermore is German’s critical thinking of history, gives them a healthy way to express their views on Germany’s history.
