Description
Summary:博士 === 世新大學 === 傳播研究所(含博士學位學程) === 106 === The coverage of Taiwan's mainstream television news often sees homeless as a perpetrator or as a pathetic person who relies on charity, but what it present is not just the lifeworld of the lower class, It may also be a manifestation of a "social disorder". The notion of "media spectacle" by American scholar Douglas Kellner and "the society of the spectacle" by French theoretician Guy Debord critically explain the relevance of the phenomenon of capitalism and the presentation of media content. This study mainly uses "media spectacle" to depict the presentation of news on homelessness and its impact on society, and explore the news on homelessness as an "old phenomenon, new subject" in consumerism, in which social context and class consciousness, become the object of spectacle? However, "spectacle theory" classifies media workers as "ruler", an executive tool manipulating the ideology. If we continue to use this concept to explain the motivation of television news workers who produce the news of homeless, we will fall into the trap of stagnation and preconception, and it is not fair to journalists. In order to find out the news of homeless motivations for TV journalists to produce "type bias", This study attempts to apply Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of practice to television news production system. We hope to understand why and how the TV media workers construct news on homelessness and how does the power of media structure under practice paradigm influence TV journalists? On the other hand, does structure provide any tool or capital to journalists? What kind of strategy, tactic, or skill do they use for work performance if they are to survive in the highly competitive field? At the same time, this study will further explore Bourdieu’s concept of "habitus", which will lead to act without thinking among TV media workers, but none of them have any sense of resistance in this process? The "media spectacle" provides a symptomatic diagnosis of morbid social phenomena and media texts, and Bourdieu's theory of practice can deconstruct television news production system, and the dynamic interaction between the agency and field structure. The theory of "media spectacle" comes from the Critical Theory Paradigm, while Bourdieu's theory of practice comes from the Practice Paradigm. Each proposition has its own conflicts and contradictions; however, with the discussion of the news on homelessness, there may be links and complementarities. In addition to being able to clearly point out what the current TV news problem is and also provide concrete improvements, creating a whole new vision both in theory and practice of journalism is the great value of the study.
