The purpose of this study was eager to provide a help for hospital manager to understand the source stress, workplace fatigue and quality of life of nursing staffs working in southern hospital in Kaohsiung city by filling out internet questionnaires and analyzed by cross-sectional study design. The questionnaire was divided into two subgroups. The first subgroup consists of the basic personnel information of the nursing staffs. The second subgroup of occupational burnout inventory was composed of personal burnout, work-related burnout, over-commitment to work and client-related burnout. Over the four subscales, a total of 24 questions were used to assess the burnout situation of nursing staffs. The current result reveals that personal burnout was in order of the dominant source of hospital's nurses, followed by over-commitment to work, work-related burnout and excessive service for the client. Further analysis reveals significant correlation among the four types of burnout (p<0.001). In the 24 questions, the score of “How often do you feel tired?” was the highest. Based on personal attributes, the client-related burnout belonging to N2 of nursing clinical ladder is significantly higher than that of N4. According to the overload scale of Guidelines for Preventing Diseases Caused by Exceptional Workload promulgated by Ministry of Labor, the total average score was respectively 54 points in personal fatigue and 51 points in work fatigue, all of which are belonging to moderate overwork. For daily schedule, 78% of the nursing staffs could not own a constant meal time, and 78% of those was in absence of sleeping, even 68% of those on daily sleep hours were less than six hours. Present results can provide hospital manager to face and improve workplace of nursing staffs toward the development of healthy and friendly environment.
