We poured ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLC-10855) into cells of which the thickness (d) was larger than the material pitch (p). A horizontal field is applied to the FLC cell by interdigital electrodes to drives the spontaneous polarization (Ps). Owing to the change of the liquid crystal direction, the sample transmittance increases and defects are generated above the electrodes. We use different electrode spaces and widths to prepare LC cells.
