By using diluted proton exchange, we could change the proton concentration in the LiNbO3 substrate and tune the surface electrostatic fields of SERS substrate. The electrons produced by irradiating UV light on the LiNbO3 substrate move to the substrate surface by the effect of the electrostatic field and react with the Au ions in the solution to produce gold nanostructure on the surface of the LiNbO3 substrate. In the experiments, we compared the Raman intensity of the SERS substrates fabricated on the +z surface and the –z surface. In the other experiments using proton exchange on the +z surface of LiNbO3 and etching by HF to produce rough surface, the better gold nanoparticles and the stronger Raman intensity are obtained in comparison with the non-etched SERS substrate. From the image of SEM, we could compare the gold nanostructures of SERS substrates with different fabrication parameters. Because the 532nm laser is used in the Raman spectrum measurement, the absorption at 532nm is measured by using absorption spectrum measurement and used to explain the variation of Raman intensity measured in the different SERS substrates.
