After collecting and analyzing literatures, revealing seven motivation factors and three barrier orientations of adults participating in continuing education. This study interviewed forty-five adult visitors who visited the Taipei Astronomical Museum, including thirty ones who ‘had never participated’ and fifteen ones who ‘had participated’ the Hands-on Programs which were held by this museum. Through the comprehensive analysis, the conclusions of the study were as follows: 1) There were seven participating motivations of these adult visitors for the Adult Hands-on Programs in Taipei Astronomical Museum, including ‘professional advancement, self-development, escape or stimulation, social service, external expectation, social relationships and learning interest.’ 2) Seven factors of participating motivations of these adult visitors for the Adults Hands-on Programs in Taipei Astronomical Museum: 1. Professional Advancement: as a teacher who has teaching requirement. 2. Self-development: seeking for self-improvement and self-understanding. 3. Escape or Stimulation: releasing the working pressure. 4. Social Service: has willing to be the volunteer of Taipei Astronomical Museum. 5. External Expectation: gaining knowledge to teach next generations by participating programs. 6. Social Relationships: looking for friends who have the same interests and increasing the skill of social relationships. 7.Learning Interest: improving knowledge of Astronomy field, interested in Astronomy Science, feel curious and fun, professional improving, the level of interests to the hands-on objects and the program itself. 3) There were three participating barriers of these adult visitors for the Adult Hands-on Programs in Taipei Astronomical Museum, including ‘Situation barriers, Unit barriers and Intention barriers.’ 4) Three factors of participating barriers of these adult visitors for the Adult Hands-on Programs in Taipei Astronomical Museum: 1. Situation barriers: time, transportation, expense, health condition and weather. 2. Unit barriers: lack of knowledge to the contents of programs, excessive amounts of registration, low quality of the program. 3. Intention barriers: less interests of Astronomy, thought that Astronomical Museum was focused on Children education, easy to get the self- knowledge, lack of hands-on abilities, Hands-on Programs not enough for providing adults’ learning acquires, preferred the program for families, Hands-On objects were less useful, no companions, contents of Hands-on Programs were difficulty, and unclear about the contents of Adult Hands-on Programs in Astronomical Museum. 5) The differences between adult visitors who ‘had never participated’ and ‘had participated’ the Hands-on Programs in Taipei Astronomical Museum: The participating motivations for ‘had never participated’ visitors did not include two items which were ‘Escape or Stimulation, and Social Service’ ; ‘had never participated’ visitors did not include the item of ‘Self-development’. The participating barrier factors for both ‘had never participated’ and ‘had participated’ visitors were all included three ones which were ‘Situation barriers, Unit barriers and Intention barriers’. According to research results, this study provides suggestions for Adult Hands-on Programs in Taipei Astronomical Museum are as recommended and expecting will be the references of planning programs in the future.
