Nowadays most people are in a stressful and anxious emotion status. However, most emotion therapy researches on entertainment products or stress relief toys are related to substantial objects, not much on the influence of Phenakistoscope, presented in motion graphics, on viewers’ emotions. Therefore, this study utilized Phenakistoscope motion graphics as a sample to investigate its influence on viewers’ emotions. The experiment included two phases. The first phase focused on the positive emotions of the subjects when provided with Phenakistoscope motion graphics played in different speeds. Positive core emotion Likert Scale was filled to compare the differences on positive emotions. State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S) was also used to further compare the positive emotion differences of subjects with different anxiety traits. The second phase emphasized on the positive emotions of subjects with moderate and severe anxiety traits when provided with Phenakistoscope motion graphics. The second phase includes two parts. Online questionnaire was used to fill out core emotion Likert Scale for pretest to select samples for EEG brain wave study using Phenakistoscope motion graphics. The selected subjects from the pretest then filled out STAI-T. The subjects met the requirement of moderate and severe anxiety traits were selected for brain wave device tests. α wave mean was collected when the subjects were provided with different Phenakistoscope motion graphics. Finally, the design elements of Phenakistoscope motion graphics influencing the viewers’ positive emotions were analyzed. The findings of this study are as follow: 1. The leisure and pleasure degree reached its peak on all subjects with different anxiety traits when the speed of Phenakistoscope motion graphics was at 0.1s/p. 2. The viewers’ positive emotions were enhanced when Phenakistoscope motion graphics had more motion formats and graphic designs. 3. The viewers’ positive emotions were enhanced when Phenakistoscope motion graphics went slower. 4. Phenakistoscope motion graphics produced positive emotions in all reviewers based on EEG brain wave experiment. As a result, installing Phenakistoscope motion graphics into smart hand-held device will increase viewers’ pleasure level. Phenakistoscope motion graphics could be seen as an entertainment product with emotion therapy function. People in a stressful and anxious status could relieve the pressure easily by viewing on the smart hand-held device. Pei-jung Cheng 鄭霈絨 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 107 zh-TW
