The protection is not only for animals and plants, habitat, culture and natural landscape; it is also including the conservation of cultural attractions between human and nature. In rural area, irrigating ditch plays an important role in water resource system. Every ditch provides the needs in farming production, and it is used for floodway, drinking water, natural ecosystem and recreation function. How the villagers value and treat the ditches would directly affect the protective effect of ecological environment conservation. The aim of this study was to investigate the ditches at Ba-Yien village in Yangmingshan National Park and Jianshan Lake Songshan community of Shimen District in New Taipei City. There are six sample ditches, Ba-Yien No.1, No.2, No.3 in Yangmingshan National Park; and Songshan No1, No.2, No.3 in Songshan community. We had investigations about the structure of the living creatures in the ditches by using Surberne tsampler and observing regularly of the change of density of soil and plants of water terracing and the change of movement of aquatic insects. We recorded the biotic faces and amounts and also measured the temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and illumination. The data related to the climate; and for the water, we checked water temperature, conductivity, PH value, dissolved oxygen content and water quality. We had the data to check whether the biotic faces change with the farming season. The amount for the data is 8985animals in 22orders,42 families and 64 kinds. We had the records of 5072 animals in 17 orders, 34 families and 47 kinds from Ba-Yien Village, and 3717 animals in 15 orders, 25 families and 36 kinds from Songshan community. The biotic faces records from all the ditches are 671 animals in 14 orders, 24 families and 26 kinds from Ba-Yien No.1 ditch; 3433 animals in 17 orders, 19 families and 28 kinds from Ba-Yien No.2 ditch; 1163 animals in 12 orders, 20 families and 25 kinds from Ba-Yien No.3 ditch. There are 764 animals in orders, 15 families and 18 kinds from Songshan No.1 ditch; 2491 animals in 13 orders, 22 families and 27 kinds from Songshan No.2 ditch; 462 animals in 10 orders, 14 families and 15 kinds from Songshan No.3 ditch. We can put all the samples into three groups, Arthropoda, Chordata, and Mollusca. We learned from the reports, the animals biotic faces in ditches are obviously less and changing in winter season due to the low water temperature, also the water is plentiful and fast, and the farming season changed is one of the most important element. We had investigations at Ba-Yien Village in Yangmingshan National Park and Songshan Community of Shimen District in New Taipei City to study the interaction between the farming and the biological activities in the ditches; and between the changing of topography and the seasonal farming ways. After a year of field investigation to study the two regions of the ditches, we knew more about how the farming ways affect the creatures and the interactions between farmers and the creatures in the ditches. We realized that the biotic faces at Ba-Yien Village in Yangmingshan National Park are totally different from Songshan Community of Shimen District in New Taipei City, so the combinations of animal species are quite different. We provided the differences from our study to local government, elders in the community and some civil society organizations as the reference.
