Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 音樂學系 === 106 === In the history of Russian music, the late Romantic period composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), is viewed as one of the most influential composers after Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka (1804-1857). The study focuses on six pieces from Tchaikovsky’s piano work—The Seasons, Op. 37a. They are December: Christmas, January: At the Fireside, February: Carnival, March: Song of the Lark, April: The Snowdrop, and May: White Nights. This essay is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is the introduction. Chapter Two briefly describes the composer’s personal history. Chapter Three looks into the historical background and musical styles that influenced how the composer wrote the scenes of winter and spring in The Seasons. Chapter Four states form analysis and interpretation regarding winter and spring in The Seasons. Chapter Five concludes key aspects of the study. In terms of performance, the author hopes to retain her own interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s work and clearly expresses the composer’s personality and idea.
