Many researchers have considered this construction appear more frequently in modern Mandarin. Many people have talked about the structure and function of "shi... de", and the most representative people are Prof. Liu Yuehua et al (2001) who wrote the Grammar Book. This original form has two main functions; (a) to emphasize the tone or to emphasize time, places and ways that an action has already been done. The other function, (b) criticism, description and elaboration from the speaker, which includes his perspectives and opinions as Prof. Liu Yuehua et al (2001) considered these two: "shi... de"(1)and "shi... de"(2). However, if teachers misguide foreign students, most of foreigners will not be able to understand the grammatical structure, meaning and the function, which cause even more grammatical errors. In the author’s perspectives, many researchers concentrate on focus construction by analyzing foreign learners. Nevertheless, Error Analysis of Vietnamese learners can rarely been seen. Moreover, people did not pay great attention to "shi... de" focus construction which also increases the usage errors. Due to the reasons above, the author set the topic as “An Error Analysis "shi... de" focus construction and teaching suggestion to Vietnamese students with high intermediate ability in Mandarin as study object subject”. Firstly, the author conducted this research through comparing between focus construction of Mandarin and Vietnamese. Secondly, he used concordancer, surveys and analysis of number and portion to find out common errors in learning Madarin of Vietnamese students. As a result, we may conclude authentic suggestions for teaching, and assist Vietnamese students to apply these grammatical structures precisely.
