Description
Summary:碩士 === 元智大學 === 社會暨政策科學學系 === 106 === World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for up to six months and continue breastfeed until two years old or older. Exclusive breastfeeding and continuous breastfeeding benefit both the mothers and the babies. More than 99% of pregnant women in Taiwan receive prenatal cares and give births at hospitals or clinics. Hence, medical institutions are the ideal places to promote breast milk. Therefore, prenatal cares and postpartum are the best timings for us to help mothers successfully breastfeed. While domestic medical workers get trained in schools, however lactation knowledge has been passed on to students in few general courses, which we believe has caused decrease or even resistance of mothers’ willingness to breastfeed their infants. The lack of knowledge and practical skills of the medical workers might be one major difficulty we hope to make changes in the future. High nurse-patient ratio is another situation we observe that mothers cannot fully access to lactation information from the professionals due to their overloading work in the hospitals. According to the research purpose, this study reflects on correlated theories and literatures, establishes research methods and designs interviews. After interviewing 18 respondents, the research conclusions are the followings: 1. Mothers who persist in breastfeeding are doing so for the sake of love. 2.Lactation knowledge and experiences relate to mothers’ willingness to breastfeed. 3. Raising mothers’ willingness to breastfeed requires adequate manpower. 4. Lactation consultant training and practice is urgent. 5.Complete supporting system will empower breastfeeding mothers on feeding the next generation. From the conclusions of this study: it is highly recommended that we start building the expertise of lactation and the popularization of breastfeeding knowledge for constructing full-spectrum supporting system for mothers and infants.
