Summary:碩士 === 元智大學 === 機械工程學系 === 106 === According to the analysis of national fire statistics by the National Fire Agency, electrical causes rank first among causes of fires in Taiwan every year. As standalone multi-floor residential buildings are classified as lower risk residential buildings in fire protection regulations for buildings, there are no mandatory fire prevention requirements for such buildings. Therefore, the fire risk will significantly increase for townhouse where indoor electrical wiring is not subject to regular replacement or checks once increased usage of home appliances exceeds the electrical load of wiring. In this study, the Fire Dunamics Simulator (FDS) software developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was used to simulate the scene of the fire in one residential building on Zhongshan East Road, Zhungli District and evacuation and escape from the fire. With the software, it could be known how temperature, CO concentration and gas layer height could be distributed and change at the fire scene. Then, relevant parameters were changed to compare changes in the fire scene and differences in the time required for people inside the building to escape from the fire and provide suggestions for improvement in the hope of reducing incidence of residential fires and associated losses.
