This measurement system can measure six-degree-of-freedom error simultaneously and has low cost advantage. When the measurement system is constructed, this measurement system can make the applications about machine tool more widely. The measurement theory of the system depends on the principle of the conventional geometric optical theory and auto-collimator. This system was made up of fixed part and moving part. Fixed part including Helium-Neon (He-Ne) laser, beam splitter and two-dimensional position sensitive detectors. Moving part was composed of a conical lens and a polygon mirror. The measurement system model was implemented by using ZEMAX optical design software and MATLAB to establish the system. We verify the feasibility of the proposed system with qualitative and quantitative analysis respectively. The qualitative analysis is to observe the characteristics and trends of the system according to ZEMAX optical software. The quantitative analysis is using the skew ray-tracing method and homogeneous transformation matrix to derive the actual spot change within the proposed measurement system.
