To follow the policy, the research was to design the application program for students to understand the campus plants by means of Scratch development tool. The designed program was applied in teaching activities. The students learned the knowledge of the campus plant through self-operating the application program. Thereafter, we analyzed the effectiveness of such learning style. The experimental research method is adopted, including pre-test, post-test design and questionnaire survey. The subjects that included 48 students from two fourth-grade classes were chosen from Sinwu Elementary School in Taoyuan City. The experimental group students were adopted to the teaching method with self-operating program, and the control group students were adopted to the traditional teaching method with lecture and explanation. The pre-test and post-test were performed for all subjects. Then we analyzed the effectiveness learning and satisfaction. The results show that the learning outcomes of the experimental group students were significantly better than the control group students. Moreover, the experimental group students showed high evaluations in learning satisfaction and learning interest improvement after questionnaire survey. Therefore, the teaching method with self-operating program is much help for students’ learning.
