The study of practices of daily life and living imageries of eco-friendly farming small-holder farmers in Yilan

碩士 === 佛光大學 === 未來與樂活產業學系 === 107 === Meeting the issues of losing arable lands and food safety scandal and situating the trend of novel cultivation with new farming movement, farming for homeward youth, the eco-friendly farming (EFF) is developing in the beautiful Yilan. The circumstance of EFF in Yilan was not clear known and it can closely connected to the environment sustention and improvement of living quality. In this research we investigated the attractants of Yilan for the small-holder farmers (SHF) devoting to EFF and explored the EFF circumstances in Yilan from 7 perspectives, motivations, insights, history, sustenance, image, and future, to interpretively explain relevant meaning. Via in-depth structure interviews for seven EFF-SHF from purposeful sampling, we investigated the motivation of doing EFF from them with their insights and practice histories, and how the living network emerges and connects. The practices of daily life and living imageries were then studied and we further considered the possible developments and trends in the future. The interview outline of the logic structure and research proposal had first been supervised by seven academic experts. The interview contents were collected and encoded for analyses. The local conditions and customs were also considered via the assistance from experts, and our study were cross-checked by the relevant literature and EFF information collected from forums and news. Our research finding can be summarized to 4 remarks: (1) Eco-friendly farming SHFs are pursuing a healthy, organic, innocuity, friendly and sustainable nature. (2) A simple small-holder farming can not support SHFs’ living. A comprehensive consideration is necessary to solve this issue and overcome the silo effect. (3) The purpose of doing EFF for SHFs is to live happily with simple life from themselves via simple, natural and essential life. They also wish to perform a Lifestyles-of-Health-and-Sustainability (LOHAS) farming village dedicating in unification of production, environment and living. (4) From agriculture perspective for the future development, they have to strengthen their uniqueness and improve marketing strategies, and from enjoying-farming point of view EFF is not just a living business but also a exhibition of entertoyment of living imageries with LOHAS. We also suggest further more compressive and wider studies as a front guide of deep explanatory research in the future. How to achieve deeper and wider living imageries of happy farmers and city farmers within LOHAS and Elderly groups is worth studying topic. In summary, a eco-friendly farming SHF wants to exhibit LOHAS as living imageries and practice of daily life and gradually gains social recognition from what they do to widen the friendly sense to people, to environment and to the world. While human are capable to be healed by nature, SHFs also think they are stupidly addicted to muds and farming. However, they need to utilize their wisdom to face practical living essentials and the balance between time and family relationships. To tackle such issues, a comprehensive perspective is necessary to break the silo effect and create values. The final living imageries are to hope human can live harmonically with nature in order to make the social, environment and ecology sustainable to the future and can stand in awe of nature with appreciation of our fates as the ways SHFs joyfully live in.
