The varied compose style of Liszt has changed from showing the technique in the early life to the description of the music connotation in the late period. The transformation is closely related to his growth background. There were the only two ballades that were composed by Liszt in his life. The purpose of this study is to analyze Franz Liszt’s major solo piano work Ballade No.2 in b minor was composed in 1853, which as shown as the most significant composition in Weimar period. Since this ballade "Ballade No.2 in b minor" which is added special effects on the themes of Frederick Chopin (1810-1849) with his style of composition, thus this ballade encompassed the technique of Thematic Transformation to create the various dramatic effects. 
 This thesis probes into the relationship between Liszt's growth process and the style of piano works, then discusses the background of "Ballade No.2 in b minor". And finally process the composition analysis and performance interpretation to explore the drama content and the tension of this ballade that Liszt were willing to express in the case of the composition background.
