Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂學系 === 107 === The Opera was the most popular music type of French in which mostly influenced by Germany and Austria music in nineteenth century. After Franco-Prussian war in 1870, Saint-Saëns and his friends established an organization called Société Nationale de Musique. The goal of this organization is to promote French music by composing and playing instrumental music of French composer. With their effort, French music was gradually known and valued by the world. The instrumental music was rarely composed by French composers while opera has enormous influence in French society. Saint-Saëns brought a new trend of French instrumental music when he published this work, “Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano in d minor, Op. 75”. Saint-Saëns composed this piece in two sections in which consisting of four movements. This thesis is going to analyze this piece from several aspects including society background of France in nineteenth century, Saint-Saëns life and music background, his music character, and compositional concept of this work. It would be an honor that readers can gain further knowledge of this piece and inspire performers with more thoughts about the interpretation after reading it.
