Therefore, this thesis presents a single-stage electronic ballast for HPS lamps with high power factor. The features of the proposed ballast are reduced numbers of circuit components, cost-effectiveness, and high efficiency. The proposed ballast can obtain high power factor and low total-harmonic-distortion (THD) of input utility-line current by designing the coupled inductor at discontinuous-conduction-mode (DCM). In addition, the presented ballast supplies low-frequency square-wave sources to the HPS lamp for avoiding acoustic-resonance. Besides, the thesis analyzes the principle operation of the proposed single-stage electronic ballast, and an electronic ballast prototype circuit for supplying a 250 W high-pressure sodium lamp has been already implemented. Finally , compared with simulated waveforms obtained by IsSpice sofeware and the experimental results, the thesis can demonstrate the advantages includes high power factor (>0.99), low utility-line current THD (<3%), and high circuit efficiency (>89%).
