and Nursery School in Taoyuan City
Abstract
Integrated Kindergarten-Nursery Policy was officially implemented in Taiwan on January 1, 2012, making Taiwan the first country in Asia to successfully integrate kindergartens and nurseries. The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of this implementation on preschool educators in Taoyuan City public preschools. It is a qualitative study incorporating in-depth interviews of four types of preschool educators including director, teacher, educare giver and educare assistant. The conclusions and recommendations emerging from this study are shown below.
I. Conclusions
1. Preschool educators do not really understand Integrated Kindergarten-Nursery Policy and regulations.
2. Each category of preschool educator does not have clearly assigned responsibilities.
3. Besides teaching, preschool educators also need to take on administrative work; their workload is too heavy.
4. High student-teacher ratio results in preschool educators being overburdened.
II. Recommendations
1. Preschool educators should be encouraged to attend policy public hearings and
seminars.
2. Each category of preschool educator should have clearly stated assigned
responsibilities.
3.Teaching and administrative work should be separated.
4. Regulations should be passed as soon as possible to decrease student-teacher
ratio.
