Description
Summary:碩士 === 美和科技大學 === 護理系健康照護碩士班 === 107 === Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and confidence for dementia care and their associated factors of home care nurses. Method: We designed a cross-sectional study which included home care nurses in Kaohsiung City between June, 2018 and August, 2018. Self-reported questionnaires for dementia knowledge, attitude and confidence for professionals were mailed to 290 home care nurses and a total of 234 valid questionnaires were returned. Result: The mean score of knowledge for dementia care was 20.82±2.97(score value between 0 to 25). Those who had dementia relatives or friends, who had ever attained dementia health care courses while in school and who had on-the-job training for dementia care in the past 2 years had higher scores of knowledge for dementia care than the others. The mean score of dementia health care attitude was 53.75±7.75 (score value between 13 to 65) which indicated that the home care nurses had positive attitude to provide health care service for dementia patients and their family. The mean score of confidence for performing dementia health care was 36.08±7.54 (score value between 13 to 52). The home care nurses were confident of transferring suspected dementia patients for further evaluation and providing supportive care information to dementia family. However, the home care nurses were lack of confidence in dementia health care competence, managing the frustration during caring dementia patients of the family and themselves. The important predictive factors for performing dementia health care were positive attitude toward dementia care, helpfulness of on-the-job dementia care training, experience of dementia care and being interested in home care. All of these predictive factors could explain 24.8% of total variables. Suggestion: Dementia holistic health care should be involved in the school education and long-term care personnel professional training to enhance the home care nurses’ knowledge and positive attitude. Promoting strategic home care center alliance and engaging in combined home healthcare project with team resources cooperation are necessary to improve the health care confidence of home care nurses.
