Accordingly, the U.S. can alleviate its militarly burdens, contain the emerging powers, and maintain American hegemony. Additionally, the U.S. has been not only protecting free trade and open markets but also maintaining the international monetary system. And so does the Obama Administration. The thesis analyzes the Obama administrations’ Pivot to Asia and National Export Initiative by using the cross-level of analysis of Hegemonic Stability Theory and Neoclassical Realism. It is composed of five chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction. Chapter 2 and chapter 3 analyze the policies and the strategic intentions of Pivot to Asia and National Export Initiative. Chapter 4 assesses the effectiveness of the two economic policies. The argument here is that internationally, the Obama administration is undertaking the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement’s negotiation and disseminating the concept of economic and trade liberalization. Domestically, it is implementing the National Export Initiative. This way, the U.S. is able to eliminate trade deficit, stimulate its receding economy, codify novel trade and investment rules, deter Chinese expansionism, and anchor its leadership role in Asia. In other words, President Obama’s trade policy reaps economic gains, and thereby, the U.S. has maintained its hegemony in the technical, economic, and political fields. Chapter 5 sums up the research findings of the thesis and makes several suggestions for further research. Huang, Kwei-Bo 黃奎博 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 148 zh-TW
