A building model was made by using Midas software, and it was analyzed by nonlinear pushover analysis. The study also mentions the calculation of equivalent stiffness and damping ratio, which are important in the seismic evaluation method. For better energy dissipation capacity of VESD, engineers usually strengthen the stiffness of the supporting frames, but it also costs more. Even though the more rigid the supporting frames are, the better energy dissipation capacity the VESD is, the growth rate is not obvious. So the study suggests design of stiffness of the supporting frames according to specification. The behavior of a viscoelastic solid material depends on three variables: frequency, shear strain, and temperature. The study discusses the influence of the energy dissipation capacity and the force of VESD when the variables change. Because presently, analysis of models with variable-changes by engineering softwares is difficult and may introduce errors. It is important to be cautious when analyzing buildings with VESD using nonlinear time history analysis. Because of sun exposure effect, the study analyzes the building by nonlinear pushover analysis under high temperature, it is obvious that the seismic capacity of the buildings with VESD reduce.
