At the current rate of aging in Taiwan, it will be the country in the world with the most aged people by 2060. The primary concern of the elderly is the two aspects of "health" and "economy", therefore, this study is based on the “Guidelines for Hospital Care Workers” by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 2013, for the role of Nursing Aide (NA). Providing non-professional care assistance in the kindergarten, keeping young children companied, and assuming task that is within their physical ability, allows the elderly to return to the proper and appropriate position independently and with dignity.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the motivation, the willingness and the needs of elderly in the participation of kindergarten work. This research adopted the questionnaire survey method, and the “2017 Survey Assess form for the aged” printed in September 2018 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare is modified and used as the basis for quantification, and the survey is completed based on the practical experience and in-depth revision of the researcher who has participated in early childhood education for many years.
The study included 410 valid questionnaires for the elderly over 56 years old in Taiping District, Taichung City. the research findings are as follows:
1. The weak elderly is moderately better in terms of physical health, mental health and social participation. However, in terms of economic needs, they are comparatively weaker with insufficient cash for living and a job with income is needed.
2. In terms of job requirements, the respondents prefer working in the morning, 2 to 3 hours daily with an hourly payment of NT$150 to NT$200, and work wise, the assistance of static learning activities is preferred.
Demographic variable shows that educational level and the family status significantly affect the willingness to work. Those with higher education level are more willing to work, and those who stay with their children also have a higher willingness to work. The physiological health has a significant positive impact on the willingness to work while the economic needs have a negative impact; besides, those who are active socially and working with partners also have a significant positive impact on the willingness to work.
