VLC can provide wireless communication and lighting at the same time. It is license-free and electromagnetic interference (EMI) free; hence it can be applied in environments where radio-frequency (RF) communication is restricted.   In this thesis, we explored the theory of complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors and rolling shutter effect (RSE). Then, we apply the CMOS image sensor as VLC receiver to capture VLC signals generated by the light-emitting diode (LED) based advertisement panel.
