However, the localized deformation resulting in shear bands leads to poor ductility and limits further applications of MGs. Understanding and controlling the plastic deformation of MGs is the key to extend their successful commercialization. In this study, the influences of the residual stress on the mechanical behaviors of MGs are explored through a well-designed computational experiment. A mesoscale model that combines the kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) method and the phase-field microelasticity theory was used to conduct the calculations. The influences of the average value, standard deviation, and distribution of residual stresses on the deformation behaviors of MGs are studied systematically. Research results show that by applying a moderate magnitude and distribution of residual stress may be able to slow down the effect of shear softening during deformation.
