The whole structure comprises coupler and microstrip line to reach the final goal of broadband performance. The multi-section coupler portion of the whole structure combines the conventional design and the novel design proposed in this thesis. The vertically installed planar (VIP) is adopted here in order to have the characteristic of high coupling coefficient. Furthermore, with the help of strict derivation for transmission line reflection coefficient makes the designer easy to obtain the specifications of the reflection network. From the described procedures, it is feasible to construct a quadrature hybrid with the properties of good return loss and broadband coupling error. The horizontal part of the circuit (main board) in this study is fabricated on a Rogers RO4003C substrate with a thickness of 20mil and a dielectric constant of 3.55. The vertical part of the circuit (VIP board) in this study is fabricated on Rogers RT/duroid® 5880 substrate with thicknesses of 5mil and 10mil respectively and dielectric constant of 3.55.
