Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 性別教育研究所 === 107 === Abstract “People have to get married” is the conventional concept in Taiwan. Unmarried women at marriageable age would receive loads of concern and pressure. They would easily be called “Shengnu ”, literally means “a leftover woman”. The researcher think that the difficulties single women are facing are quite different from men. Thus, the research dealt with the life experiences of voluntary single men. This research had interviewed 11 men, including heterosexual and non-heterosexual, over the age of 40 who chose to be single in order to understand the ideas they hold for marriage, the reason why they choose to be single, and their self-identity for being single. Also, this research have explored the life circumstances and difficulties these subjects encounter in life and their countermeasures for solving these problems. The findings of the research shows that the subjects no longer hold fantasy toward marriage. “Must get married” is not a sole choice for them anymore. They hold positive mind while facing problems of being single at marriageable age and they can come up with solutions. As to non-heterosexual men, the fear for admitting their sexual orientation, the constraint of their feelings, and the issue of same-sex marriage legalization make their problems more complicated.
