As predicted, the number of aging people could mount to 20% of entire population, which will result in a “super-aging society” in Taiwan. Recently, besides rooting on the concept of social welfare, attending to physical change, and promoting health, caring mode of the middle-aged and the elderly has placed more foci on the domains featuring mental health and vigorous aging. In specific, how to assist them to engage in life-long learning through senior citizen education is becoming a critical scheme of national developments. Previous literature shows that video-teaching may exert considerable teaching effects and learning outcomes, which has been prevalent in course design. In the past, the middle-aged and the elderly were general preoccupied by their less acceptability to utilizing digital materials in multi-media teaching. This present exploratory study aims to investigate the effects of video teaching on learning results by employing interactive class-preview videos in a “spiritual growth’ course in a university’s Senior Citizen Learning Camp in Kaohsiung City. Pinpointing learning effectiveness and background variables, the pre-test and post-test survey data from “ Learners’ Course Satisfaction Questionnaire” and “The Development of the Well-Being Scale of Elders” were treated and analyzed by statistical procedures such as Descriptive Statistics, Independent-Sample t-test, Paired-Sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The research results are 1) All background variable show no significant difference on learning effectiveness, 2) Class-preview videos has positive significant difference on course satisfaction, 3) Class-preview videos demonstrates significant difference on learners’ sense of bliss, 4) the frequency of viewing videos yields significant difference on learning effectiveness. Lastly, several substantial suggestions are proposed for the future studies, which relates to course instructors in senior citizen learning camp and the course planning of using videos appropriately.
