However, the habitat of hermit crabs is reducing day by day because of human destruction. The living things of intertidal zone face survival crises because of being captured directly, over-collecting marine shells, and garbage throwing by human beings. All these factors make the coastal scenery no longer beautiful. Once walking by the seaside, the author found that the stuffs on the hermit crabs’ bodies were not shells but artificial waste, some are bottle caps, and some are little water pipes. What an unexpected scene it was! There was even a report said that one hermit crab had a ghost-doll’s head as its shell because of not finding appropriate one. This makes the author extremely astonished and offers the author the motivation of researching and the inspiration of creating. The hermit crab is the scheme for this illustrating creation, exploring the survival issue of the hermit crab to find a warm and cozy house (shell), the phenomenon of selling hermit crabs as pets, and exploring extensively the co-survival issue of global creatures and the importance of emphasizing environmental education. In the aspect of creating media, the author used watercolors to present plentiful varieties and the texture . The purpose of this creation research is not only to record the processes of creation, but also, by literature review, to understand the living habit of hermit crabs and the reason of their survival crises. Besides, this research is to find proper contents and elements of creating, according to which to implant the concept of environmental education into the illustrating creation. In this research of illustrating creation, the author not only encountered lots of difficulties in thinking, but also learned much valuable experience. Finally, the author proposed the direction of continual creation in the future and the way of applying this illustrating creation research to teaching. By creating illustration, the author expects to make every effort to help hermit crabs’ survival environment and to convey the importance of hermit crab conservation. Besides, in order to expand the meaning and the function of this research to the most, the author also expects that these illustrations will become an auxiliary teaching material for environmental education and hermit crab conservation
