The survey recruited 219 participants from four sports team at different elementary schools (aged 10.8 ± 1.1). After they wrote the questionnaire to examine the paternalistic leadership, Chinese coach-athlete relationship and team cohesion, the results were processed by SPSS and analyzed through descriptive statistics and Pearson product-moment correlation. The study of statistical significance is α = .05. The results of this study were the following: (1) Paternalistic leadership was moderate positively correlated to Chinese coach-athlete relationship, and team cohesion; Chinese coach-athlete relationship was moderate positively correlated to team cohesion. (2) Authoritarianism leadership was low positively correlated to instrument relationship, responsible courtesy, task cohesion and social cohesion. Moral leadership and benevolence leadership were moderate positively correlated to spontaneous emotion, responsible courtesy, task cohesion, and social cohesion. Spontaneous emotion, responsible courtesy and instrument relationship were moderate positively correlated to task cohesion and social cohesion. (3) Full mediation effects of Chinese coach-athlete relationship were witnessed between benevolence leadership and task cohesion, social cohesion. Partial mediation effects of Chinese coach-athlete relationship were witnessed between moral leadership and task cohesion. Full mediation effects of Chinese coach-athlete relationship were witnessed between moral leadership and social cohesion. In conclusion, benevolence leadership and moral leadership not only has a direct impact on task and social cohesion but also produces direct and indirect effects through the relationship between Chinese coaches and athletes.
