碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 107 === Peikang has been the center of Mazu belief in Taiwan for three hundred years. It has been the downtown of villages and towns nearby as well. Since Qing Dynasty, it has been a prosperous place. Therefore, many local cultures are preserved over hundreds of years. Nowadays, these cultures appear recurrently in numerous festivals in Peikang. In various annual festivals in Chaotian Temple at Peikang, these cultures of hundreds years are contained. Fraternity at Peikang is one part of the local groups which can be seen in these cultural festivals. Fraternity at Peikang plays an important role in the culture of Peikang. The origin of fraternity at Peikang is relevant to the fact that Peikang was a flourishing town. At that time, all walks of life came here to do business. People in the same trade founded fraternity to interact and to participate the festivals of Chaotian Temple. Due to their participation, all kinds of activities at Peikang became famous. They also developed into one of the most representative cultures at Peikang. Thus, this thesis begins with the origin of fraternity at Peikang to perceive their connection to Mazu belief at Chaotian Temple at Peikang. And this thesis will discuss about their relations with local cultures from all sorts of activities. It will make more people to understand different aspects of Peikang and the richness of its cultures.
